Weekly Wrap

Senior Wrap

The first XI needing to win the match to get into the four had a tough day at the office. They were bowled out for 103 and Kingsville Baptists are 4/83 in reply. Satinder Gill was the best performed with the bat making 34 while Birinder Sandhu took 2 wickets in the attempt to restrict Kingsville below our score.

The 2nd XI playing both Saturday and Sunday to accommodate the running of the Tea Gardens Gift next Saturday failed by 1 wicket to keep their winning streak going. Amit Nayyar had another good game taking 4 wickets in the low scoring match and Bahadur Sodhi top scored with 38 not out.

The 3rd XI were sent in to bat in 35 degrees by Moonee Valley and then racked up 233 runs largely due to Rohit Alladas maiden century and a fighting 65 by Brian Wentzel. Moonee Valley are 1 for 7 in response after Luke Wentzel bowled the opening batsman in his first over.

The 4th XI had a good win against Royal Park Reds with Tasso Tatsidis taking 4 wickets and Travis Rodier top scoring with 28 not out.

Junior Wrap

The under 14s playing in another split innings match were all out for 43 due to a significant number of players not being available this week. Top scorer was Anthony Prochillo with 12. We managed to take 8 Youlden Parkville wickets with Jacob Cutri and Scott Russell both taking 2 by the end of the day with the scores locked on 43. We need 2 wickets for zero to rescue this game next week. Quick wickets and quick runs may see us go for an unlikely outright next week.

The under 12s struggled to score against top of the ladder Aberfeldie. Matthew VanDerBurgt was the major wicket taker with 2 but Abers still made 103 and managed to restrict our score to 67.

The under 10s had a win by forfeit with Glenroy not turning up to play their home match.

Rohit Allada Century

Rohit Allada was the latest player to make a 100 this season scoring 103 in the 3rd XI match against Moonee Valley.  His knock was impressive given the uneven bounce of the pitch and the extreme heat of the day.  His knock set up a big first innings score of 233 and has given the team every chance to secure a win.
.

Brian Wentzel makes a 50

Rohit was well supported by Brian Wentzel who made a half century in a 2nd wicket partnership of 84.  Complaining of sore legs before the match, Brian batted well in the conditions before he was out just before tea for 65.  This was Brian’s 2nd match back after a year off and it looks like he hasn’t missed a beat.

gift raceVolunteers for the upcoming Avondale Heights Gift Race are required to help out with general admin duties on the day.

Duties include helping judge the winners, collecting bibs from the runners, collecting money for the car parking, running drinks between the bars and handling the cash collected on the day.

This event earns some much needed cash for our club and it is a great opportunity for senior players, junior players and junior parents to get involved in the club activities.

Volunteers needed to fill the Junior Coordinator or Senior Committee roles to be vacated at Seasons End

vacantAt the Christmas Party, Paul Adami also announced that he would not be standing for re-election as President next season.

With Chris Dougherty's resignation announced in November that will leave all official positions of the club vacant at the end of this season.

Some people have spoken to Chris about the junior operations and it is promising that the junior program will continue.

The Senior Section of the club however is in desperate need for people to take up the roles of President, Treasurer, Secretary and Vice-President.

As Paul said at the Christmas function, if we get more people to put up their hand then the work load can be spread more equitably amongst the committee. As it is at the moment, the work of the club falls on too few.

There is only 5 weeks of the season left once teams return from the Christmas break, and time is fast running out if volunteers are interested in taking up offers to shadow Paul and Chris for the remainder of the season.

If you are interested in fulfilling any of the roles or even sharing them with others, please approach Chris 0432 655 403 or Paul 0411 779 688 to make arrangements.
